GS Caltex head coach Cha Sang-hyun shares his thoughts on captain Kang So-hwi.
GS Caltex won the first match of Group B of the ‘2023 Gumi Dodram Cup Professional Volleyball Tournament’ against Supreme Chonburi (Thailand) with a set score of 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-18) at 1:30 p.m. in Gumi Park Junghee Gymnasium.
The deciding set was the first. GS Caltex, who struggled with Supreme’s organic movement, scored five consecutive points to turn the tide at 20-22. They went on to take the second and third sets to secure a comfortable victory. Moon Ji-yoon led the offense with a team-high 19 points, while Kang So-hwi added 14 points.
After the game, Coach Cha said, “Overall, I think we did a good job of showing what Supreme has. I thought we shouldn’t take them lightly. If we didn’t manage after the 20th point, the set could have been over.”
“Thailand’s play was fast in general, utilizing fastballs and time differences. That came out during the match. If we had the height of our opponent, I think we would have struggled more. The score was 3-0, but it was a tight match.”
As for setter Kim Ji-won, who has been playing with the national team, she said, “My reception wasn’t too shaky, so my ball distribution wasn’t too bad. She utilized the low side well.”
Speaking about Moon Ji-yoon, Cha said, “After this tournament, I’m going to start training her on receiving. We need a foreigner to solve the apogee spiker position. If Jiyoon opens her eyes to defense and reception, I think she will show more stable performance.” 토토사이트
GS Caltex’s captain for the season is Kang So-hwi. “When you coach and then become a manager, you have a sense of responsibility. When you become a teammate and then a captain, you have a sense of responsibility that you didn’t have before, and I’m looking forward to that part. I’ve become more demanding lately (laughs). I believe he will do a good job.”
