Hyun-jin Ryu (36-Toronto Blue Jays) is about to get some much-needed support in Toronto. American League RBI leader Bo Bissett is close to returning to action.메이저사이트
“Bissett will make a rehab assignment with Toronto’s Triple-A Buffalo Bisons,” MLB.com reported on Saturday. Bissett will play designated hitter on the 16th and shortstop on the 17th.
If Bissett performs well in his rehab assignment, he could be called up to the big leagues as early as this weekend for a three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds, according to the outlet.
Bissett appeared in 106 games this season, batting .321 with 17 home runs, 59 RBIs and an OPS of .846. Bissett’s hot streak came to a screeching halt when he left a home game against the Baltimore Orioles on April 1 with a knee injury while running the bases.
Since the injury, Bissett has missed the team’s 13 games, but still leads the American League in hits (144).
As of the 16th, Toronto is 66-54 and in the third wild card spot in the American League. However, they are only two games behind the Seattle Mariners for the fourth wild card, which is not a comfortable position. Bissett’s return is a huge boost for Toronto.
Bissett’s return is also good news for Hyun-jin Ryu, who has been pitching well since returning from injury. After picking up his first win of the season against the Chicago Cubs on April 14, Ryu will likely be in the rotation for the final game of the three-game series against Cincinnati on April 21. If Bisset returns this weekend as scheduled, it will be a huge boost for Ryu as he looks to pick up his second win of the season.
Toronto’s bullpen is also getting some help. The Jays called up closer Jordan Romano for a series against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday.
Romano, who has been Toronto’s closer since 2021, has been solid in the back end this season with 28 saves, but was placed on the disabled list after suffering back pain during a game against the Los Angeles Angels on May 29. Toronto recalled fireballer Jordan Hicks to fill Romano’s void.
After recovering from the injury, Romero made one rehab start at Triple-A before returning to the lineup today. With Romano’s return, Hicks and Eric Swanson, who had been closers, will move to set-up duties. The return of a solid closer could also be a big boost for starter Ryu Hyun-jin.
