San Diego Padres right-handed reliever Robert Suarez has been ejected from the game.
Suarez took the mound in the top of the eighth inning of the Padres’ home game against the Miami Marlins at Petco Park in San Diego, California, on Thursday (July 24) and was immediately ejected.
It was for using a foreign substance. Before taking the mound, he was tested for foreign substances as usual, which revealed a problem.메이저놀이터
All four umpires gathered to examine his glove and hand, and first base umpire Todd Tichenor ordered him out.
“It was really, really sticky,” Tichenor, who served as the umpire’s assistant, told MLB.com and other local media outlets in a full report after the game. And I got ejected,” Tichenor said in a full report to MLB.com.
In an interview with local media, Suarez insisted that the amount of sunscreen he wore was no different from what he normally wears in a day game.
He maintained his innocence, saying he “did not use any illegal substances.”
Major League Baseball cracked down on the use of foreign substances by pitchers beginning with the 2021 season. Pitchers who are caught automatically receive a 10-game suspension.
A 10-game suspension for Suarez, who is 2-2 with a 4.73 ERA in 13 starts this season as the team’s setup man, would be a huge blow to San Diego, which is in need of a win the rest of the season.
“I’ll see what my options are and decide,” Suarez said, adding that he will see if an appeal is possible.
