The sleepless nights continue in Seattle. The Seattle Mariners of Major League Baseball have been on a tear, winning a whopping 20 of their last 23 games. They’re within striking distance of an elusive postseason berth.
The Mariners have been eating up wins in August. A 6-3 home win over the Boston Red Sox on the 3rd, followed by a four-game home sweep of the Los Angeles Angels, a two-game home sweep of the San Diego Padres, and a home win over the Baltimore Orioles on the 11th marked an eight-game winning streak. The team then lost three straight, but rebounded with a 10-8 road win over the Kansas City Royals on the 16th and a 6-3 road win over the Chicago White Sox on the 23rd.
A 4-5 loss to the White Sox on the 24th ended the nine-game winning streak. However, the team quickly got back on the winning track. They swept a three-game series at home against the Kansas City Royals, then welcomed the Oakland Athletics to town on the 29th for a 7-0 shutout. The whistle blew again for a four-game winning streak.메이저사이트
The recent run of form has propelled them to the top of the American League West. Their 75 wins and 56 losses put them in first place in the division. The defending champion Texas Rangers (74-57) have slipped to 2-8 in their last 10 games. The third-place Houston Astros (75-58) are also two games back.
Seattle’s “crazy run” and Texas’ slump have made the American League West race very tight. First, second, and third place are separated by two games. With the fourth-place Los Angeles Angels (63-69) a long way from the fall feast, three teams are expected to fight for the division title and wild card down to the wire.
Seattle hosts the last-place Oakland (38-94) in the American League West on Sept. 30 and 31. The A’s have already been eliminated from the postseason and are favored to win because they’re so depleted. The A’s then hit the road for 14 straight games with no days off. They play three games on the road against the New York Mets and Cincinnati Reds, followed by a four-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays. They then return home for a three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels.
