The San Diego Padres’ fall baseball hopes have faded.
The Padres fell 4-5 to the 2023 Major League Baseball St. Louis Cardinals on Aug. 31 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.
San Diego struck first. Kim Ha-seong, who started at second base and batted first, singled in the first at-bat and scored the team’s first run. He added an RBI single in the second inning.
Kim is on a three-game hitting streak. He has five hits and two RBIs in three games. He went 4-for-5 with a double, a home run, an RBI, and a run scored on the day, but his performance was overshadowed by his team’s loss.
Tied 3-3 in the top of the seventh, Juan Soto’s RBI single to left-center gave them a 4-3 lead, but the game ended in the bottom of the ninth when Josh Hader gave up a two-run homer to Tommy Edmon on a three-pitch, 97.2-mile-per-hour sinker with two outs.
According to MLB.com, “Edmon hit a 97.2-mile-per-hour fastball off Heider. Heider shook his head for a moment, then looked back. As the ball sailed over the right-center field fence at Busch Stadium, home to the St. Louis bullpen, the San Diego closer ducked and headed for the dugout.”
MLB.com continued, “Their winning percentage dropped below 5 percent. They are 7.5 games out of a wild-card spot with 28 games remaining.” “A week ago, the Dodgers had some hope of making the postseason, but a series against Milwaukee and St. Louis made it difficult.”안전놀이터
After the game-winning home run, Heider said, “Whether it goes your way or not, you have to keep fighting. No one quits. We’re going to keep going.” The Padres, however, are 1-5 on the road from Milwaukee on April 26 to St. Louis today.
“It’s getting tougher and tougher,” San Diego manager Bob Melvin admitted. “It’s frustrating for everybody,” Melvin said.
